Residential Curbside Rubbish Collection Guidelines
- How Often and Where is My Rubbish Collected?
All residential rubbish is collected one time per week on your assigned pickup day. All rubbish cans and bags are to be placed at the front line of the property as close to the curb as possible. Please make sure that the rubbish is not placed on sidewalks or within ingress and egress traffic areas.
- How Do I Prepare My Rubbish?
All waste materials shall be placed in designated plastic refuse containers or plastic bags. The plastic containers must have two handles and have a maximum capacity of 40 gallons and shall not exceed 35 pounds. Plastic bags must be securely tied and be of adequate thickness and not exceed 35 pounds. Do not use cardboard boxes or paper bags as trash containers. Items such as Hypodermic Needles and Glass (Sharps) must be properly prepared before placing them in the rubbish. - What to do with Bulk Items?
Bulk Items are collected with your rubbish on your assigned collection day.
- What Bulk Items Are Accepted?
Most household bulk items are accepted and will be collected at the curb. Items must be placed at the curb and properly prepared. Properly prepared means the item(s) must be neatly placed at the curb and manageable for 2 people to load the item into the truck. A manageable amount for collection is 3 cubic yards at the curb per week. 3 cubic yards is a 4 foot by 7 foot by 3 foot tall area. (4’x7’x3’). Any amounts that exceed this are subject to additional charges at $7.00 per cubic yard.
- What Items are NOT Accepted for Curbside Collection?
Items that are NOT accepted at the curb are as follows.
-All Household Hazardous Waste (Motor Oil, Water and Oil Based Paint, Cleaners, Bleach, Solvents, Gasoline, Diesel, Antifreeze, Pool Chemicals, Aerosol Cans, Mercury Containing Devices, Propane Tanks, Cylinders ETC…)
-All Specialty Waste (Televisions, Monitors, Cell Phones, Computers, Game Consoles, Printers, Fluorescent Light Bulbs, Lithium-Ion Batteries, Jump Start Packs, Tires ETC…)
-All Freon Containing Devices (Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, Air Conditioners, Ice Makers ETC…)

-What to do with Construction Debris?
Construction debris consist of unwanted materials that are generated during the remodeling of the house and property. This includes items such as lumber, cabinets, windows, doors, drywall, flooring, carpet, bathroom fixtures, and playground sets.
Most construction debris items are accepted and will be collected at the curb. Items must be placed at the curb and properly prepared. Properly prepared means the item(s) must be neatly placed at the curb. All lumber and long lengths of material must be cut into 4 foot lengths and bundled. Duct tape and rope work well for making manageable bundles. The bundles shall not exceed 35 pounds. A manageable amount for collection is 3 cubic yards at the curb per week. 3 cubic yards is a 4 foot by 7 foot by 3 foot tall area. (4’x7’x3’). Any amounts that exceed this are subject to additional charges at $7.00 per cubic yard.
- What to do with Yard Waste?
Yard Waste is collected every week, late April through early November, on the same day as your rubbish pickup. Yard Waste shall be placed in a separate, designated plastic container or bundled. The container must be labeled “Yard Waste” in large lettering. The container shall be placed at the front line of the property, before 6am on the day of your collection, and placed at least 6 feet away from your rubbish.
Yard Waste consist of grass clippings, leaves, flower bed clippings, garden clippings and tree trimmings. Items must be properly prepared. Properly prepared means the item(s) must be neatly placed at the curb. All branches and long lengths of material must be cut into 4 foot lengths and bundled. Rope works well for making manageable bundles. The bundles shall not exceed 35 pounds. A manageable amount for collection is 3 cubic yards at the curb per week. 3 cubic yards is a 4 foot by 7 foot by 3 foot tall area. (4’x7’x3’).
Paper Yard Waste Bags will not be collected at the curb. The facility that composts our yard waste does not accept the paper bags.

-What to do with Large Amounts of Rubbish?
Roof replacements, deck replacements, shed demolitions, pool demolitions, large construction projects and move outs are considered large amounts of rubbish. Renting a roll off dumpster is recommended to handle these large rubbish situations.
- What to do with Recyclables?
Recyclable materials shall not be mixed with your curbside rubbish. This includes cardboard, paper, plastics, and metal cans. These materials shall be properly prepared and taken to the multiple locations throughout Medina City and Medina County.

-DELAYS IN COLLECTIONS may occur occasionally due to inclement weather or official holidays. However, the Sanitation Clerk should be notified of any collections that are missed on a regular basis.
-DELAYED COLLECTION HOLIDAYS – New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. When a holiday falls on a weekday, the collection for that day and all following days of that week will be one day late.
-WORKING HOLIDAYS- MLK Day, Presidents Day, Juneteenth, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day. These days will be collected without any delay in service. Please have your rubbish at the curb by 6:00am on your designated collection day.
